What do you find when you Google yourself?

After Googling myself the only thing that I could really find were my blogs for my classes, my bio on the Retriever website about lacrosse, an article about my team on the retrieverweekly.com, and other lacrosse articles that I have been in. There were plenty of other articles that either had Swift in it that came up or the name Abbey Swift, but they had nothing to do with me. I would say that 90% of the things that came up after Googling myself had nothing to do with me. The only digital impression of me that is on the Internet today is an athletic one and I guess that I do my assignments for class, but the only problem I have with my blogs being out there is that I have pictures of myself on them. Therefore, people would know what I look like. Also I don’t like that there is so much that someone could find about me because if they were to Google me they would know where I went to school, how many brothers and sisters I have, what my parents names are, and most importantly what I look like. I personally do not like that; I think it is kind of scary. I would rather if someone where to Google me not be able to find anything because if someone wanted to stalk me they could.

I agree it is kind of scary knowing that others out there can find so much out by googling our names. Even in regards to blogs, they could read our thoughts and ideas about certain things which may in fact have a positive or negative affect. There isn't much that is private any more.

This just goes to show how easy it is for complete strangers to access our personal information. They can find out a lot about you just by typing your name into google. Even if there are only a few websites with our information, it can still be accessed with anyone who has a computer.

I agree with you as well. In googling my own name at first I had hoped to find something, however I realized I am much more satisfied with having found nothing. I would also be concerned that someone might stalk me or find out personal information about me.

Concerning the athletic bio, I noticed a similar result when I googled my own name. Though, that was a different university student that just happened to have the same first and last name as my own, it was amazing how much information I was able to get about my alter ego! Very scary thought indeed...

I had basically the same results as you, 90% had nothing to do with me. I also agree that it can be dangerous having personal information so readily available to the public, but at the same time we create Facebook accounts and Myspace accounts which allow people who might not really know us, to have the ability to view pictures of us, etc.

Its weird to think about how much we are constantly under survellance. And the weirdest part is that google enables this type of spying.
